Welcome

Dear colleagues:

After very successful editions of the previous Hispanic-American Input-Output Society (SHAIO) conferences in Oviedo (2005), Zaragoza (2007), Albacete (2009), Madrid (2011), Seville (2013), Barcelona (2015) and Merida-Yucatan (2017), 2019 is the year for Santiago de Compostela (Galicia) to take up the baton. From the Local and Scientific committees, we will try to offer to the Input-Output community the best space for the exchange of ideas and for encouraging academic and professional collaborations.

It is a great pleasure for the University of Santiago de Compostela, the Group of Analysis and Modelling in Economics (GAME) and AYeconomics Research Centre to host this conference in the Faculty of Economics and Business in the lively and lovely city of Santiago de Compostela. This University, funded in 1495, is one of the oldest academic institutions in the world, and one of the most prestigious universities in Spain. Santiago de Compostela, capital city of the Galician region, is an energetic student city with a rich cultural atmosphere and a great gastronomic variety. As a recognition of its historical value, the wonderful city’s Old Town was designated in 1985 a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

As in preceding meetings, the official languages of the conference will be English and Spanish. Abstracts, papers and organized sessions can be submitted in any of these two languages. The program will include the third edition of the Spanish School of Input-Output Analysis (ESAIO), plenary and parallel sessions, the Emilio Fontela Award ceremony, and some other amazing surprises that will make this event unforgettable.

We are very excited to have the opportunity of inviting all the Input-Output community to participate in the next 8th Hispanic-American Input-Output Conference, and we hope that the linkages established here remain strong in the years to come. Looking forward to seeing you all making the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela this 2019!

Best regards,

The chairs of the local and scientific committees
